“Why Vote?” Panel Discussion with Local Leaders and moderated by Dr. Bill Lyons

SEPT 21, 2022 • 5:00pm
TOYOTA AUDITORIUM

In his 1980 book, No Margin for Error, Senator Baker wrote, “I think I understand in my bones the reason the indifferents stay at home. They don’t think they count. They don’t believe who they vote for, what party they vote for, will mean a solitary thing to them in their individual lives. Let’s do something about it.”

For this panel discussion with local leaders, Bill Lyons, Director of Policy Partnership for the Baker Center as well as an expert in American politics and voting behavior, will tackle this challenge and attempt to get answers to the question: Why Vote?

Knox County Election Commissioner Hannah Hopper, Vice Mayor Andrew Roberto and City Councilwoman Lynn Fugate will be panelists.

Event Information

This event will be held on Wednesday, September 21, from 5:00pm tp 6:15am in the Toyota Auditorium at the Howard H. Baker, Jr. Center for Public Policy. Parking in the White Avenue Parking Garage (1621 White Avenue) can be validated at the venue. The event is free and open to the public.

Event Series

This event is part of the Issues in the Public Square series, which focuses on local and state challenges in Tennessee. The event is also part of the University’s fall 2022 Listen. Learn. Lead. Week that was inspired by Senator Baker’s observation that the key to leadership was to be an “eloquent listener.”
