Thomas Abt, one of the nation’s leading experts in violence reduction, returns to the Howard H. Baker Jr. Center to provide a data-informed conversation concerning gun violence in Knoxville.

Following up on an earlier discussion from this year, this program will review when, where and why violence in Knoxville is most likely to occur and discuss evidence-based strategies for saving lives.

Thomas Abt teaches and writes about evidence-informed approaches to address violent crime and other public safety problems. He is the chair of the Council on Criminal Justice’s Violent Crime Working group. Before working at the Council, Abt served as a Senior Research Fellow at the Harvard Kennedy School and held leadership positions in the New York Governor’s office and the Office of Justice Programs at the U.S. Department of Justice.
