The Southern Institute of Local Government is described as a “1940s effort to promote contacts between the UT College of Liberal Arts and the public officials of the sate.” The institute’s 1941 October program lists a few topics of concern: “How will federal government activities affect the financial future of our local governments?” and “What improvements can be made in the control and management of local debt?”
