This collection consists of newspaper clippings regarding the Southern Institute of Local Government. Many of the clippings are identified by the Tennessee Press Association Clipping Service, which documents the date of publication, name of newapaper, and the city in which the newspaper is published.

The Southern Institute of Local Government is described as a “1940s effort to promote contacts between the UT College of Liberal Arts and the public officials of the sate.” The institute’s 1941 October program lists a few topics of concern: “How will federal government activities affect the financial future of our local governments?” and “What improvements can be made in the control and management of local debt?”
