Paul Mulholland Butler (1905-1961) was a lawyer and chairman of the Democratic National Committee (DNC). Paul Butler received his law degree from Notre Dame in 1927. His work with the Democratic party and staunch support of Adlai Stevenson propelled him to a seat on the DNC in 1952. He later became DNC chairman in 1955 and used the position to articulate opinions in opposition to the Eisenhower Administration. His ideology was opposed by both liberal and conservative democrats. Butler was
dropped as DNC chairman after Kennedy’s 1960 general election victory.
