Archival Collections

The Modern Political Archive collects and preserves the American political record. Currently the archive represents select members of the U.S. Congress and Senate, the federal judiciary, and presidential cabinets. The archive also collects the personal papers of Tennessee Governors and private collectors. The material includes manuscripts, books, photographs, fine art, sound recordings, digital files, and ephemera.

We look forward to assisting you in your research. Archival collections are arranged alphabetically by name in the column to your right. When you arrive at the archive please leave your coat on the coat rack. We provide lockers for you to store your bags. Turn your cellular phone off. We do not allow the use of ink pens within the research room. Food and beverage are not allowed. Please limit your conversations.

The Modern Political Archive is located on the second floor of the Howard H. Baker Jr. Center for Public Policy. The research room is open to the public Monday through Friday between the hours of 9:00 and 4:00. No appointment is necessary. However, we do appreciate when you schedule your visit in advance. This allows for a staff member to prepare your materials and to ensure your seat in the reading room.

A staff member is reached at 865-974-0939 or mpa@utk.edu Monday through Friday between the hours of 9:00 and 4:00.
