Bio: D. Gavin Luter joined the Baker Center in June 2007 as a Coordinator. Gavin comes from a background in higher education administration, with experience in student affairs administration. His involvement through out his higher education experience was in the areas of residence life, diversity education, civic engagement, and student leadership education.
During his graduate education experience, Gavin fused his interested in public policy and student affairs by accepting an internship with the Baker Center in February of 2006. While working at the Baker Center, Gavin focused on reaching out to the student population by spearheading voter education and registration campaigns, a living learning community experience, and various other civic education-related events on campus and state-wide.
Gavin has served on the conference planning committee for Virginia Tech’s annual University/Community Partnership Conference. He has also presented at Western Carolina University’s annual Service Learning Symposium on the topic of Campus-Community Collaborations. His research interests include community within higher education, university/community interactions, college student civic awareness, and work in society.
Gavin is originally from the Tidewater area of Virginia. Around Knoxville, you can find Gavin at the Laurel Theatre where he volunteers and almost any other live music event.
