Baker Center Learning Community

Staff Contact: Gavin Luter

The Honors-Baker Center Community gives all students, both Honors and non-Honors, a chance to integrate their interests in politics and public service into their on-campus living experience and allows them to form close relationships with students of similar interests. Named after former Tennessee Senator Howard H. Baker, Jr., the Baker Center Community is tied to UT’s Howard H. Baker Jr. Center for Public Policy. Members will live with Honors Learning Community students in Morrill Hall. The community is open to freshmen and returning students. Members of the Honors-Baker Center Community will enroll in a class about citizenship and public policy in the fall and the spring and participate in bi-weekly meetings and activities with the rest of the community.

There are two ways to apply:

  • FOR HONORS STUDENTS: If you are eligible to sign up for the Honors Learning Community, indicate on your honors learning community application you would like to be a member of the “Honors-Baker Center Community.” You must also complete a short application.
  • FOR ALL OTHER STUDENTS: Please complete our short application, which will be avaliable online starting in mid-February. You can then e-mail your application to bakercenter@utk.edu.
