Part of the Howard Baker Center?s mission is to actively engage in innovative educational initiatives to help students of all ages better understand the American political system.ÿThese initiatives promote understanding of the responsibilities and rewards of public service, and the significance of each citizen's active involvement in government. The Baker Center partners with different national, state, and local organizations to encourage civic education and political knowledge among K-12 and college students.

Now Accepting Applications for 2009-2010 Baker Center Learning Community
The Baker Center Learning community provides students, both Honors and Non-Honors, with interests in politics, public service, civic engagement, political communications, and media the opportunity to enhance their university experience by living with students of similar interests, and by further pursuing these interests with the help of UT faculty and staff.
Applications are now available online, and can be submitted on a rolling basis.

2009 Baker Scholars Announced
Each year, the Baker Center takes applications for the Baker Scholar program. The Baker Scholars have at least a 3.25 GPA and are interested in careers in public service. These students must attend Baker Center events and must craft an individual plan for engagement within the Baker Center.
