The Howard Baker Center, in cooperation with the University of Tennessee Libraries, is undertaking an ambitious effort to create a vibrant, innovative, and much-used research center called the Modern Political Archives (MPA). The MPA contains materials of political leaders of Tennessee, major associates of those leaders, and other individuals or groups who have had a major impact on Tennessee during the modern era. Currently the MPA includes the papers of U.S. Senators Howard H. Baker, Jr., Estes Kefauver, Fred Dalton Thompson, and William Emerson Brock III; Governors Donald Sundquist, and Winfield Dunn; United States Congressmen John J. Duncan Sr., and Howard H. Baker Sr.; United States Congresswoman Irene Baker; and state senator Ben Atchley.
