The Water Energy Nexus in East Tennessee was produced by Dr. Carol Harden and her team at the UT Dept. of Geography, under a grant from the Baker Center. Dr. Harden’s paper explores the demands energy production has placed on water resources in Tennessee, and especially East Tennessee. As home to the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA), power is generated in East Tennessee using a wide range of methods and though we are considered “water rich,” droughts, water conflicts, and increasing demand for energy have called attention to the need to re-evaluate the effects of energy production on the quantity and quality of water.
